Ansu Fati joins Monaco on loan from Barcelona
FC Barcelona has confirmed an agreement with AS Monaco for the loan of Ansu Fati for the 2025-26 season, with an option to buy.
The deal has been concluded as a one-year loan, with Monaco holding a purchase option valued at 11 million euros. Additionally, Barça retains a buy-back clause, which could be activated to maintain control over the future of one of its most promising academy graduates.
Before the transfer was finalised, Ansu extended his contract with FC Barcelona until 2028, thereby ensuring his continued association with the club should he return.
At 22 years of age, Ansu Fati begins a new chapter following two seasons plagued by injuries and a lack of consistency. Last season, under Hansi Flick, he made just 300 official minutes of appearances and failed to score. The season before, he was loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion, where he also struggled to find regular playing time.
With this signing, Monaco add attacking to their talent and will be hoping for the resurgence of a player who once wore Barça’s number 10 shirt and was considered one of the brightest prospects in European football. The French club provides him with a competitive yet less high-profile environment, well-suited for reviving his career.
