Robert Lewandowski announces Barcelona exit
Robert Lewandowski announces he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Barcelona had been open to extending the veteran striker’s deal, though on reduced wages.
However, Lewandowski, 37, has decided to bring his four-year spell with the LaLiga champions to a close.
The Polish forward has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, including Chicago Fire.
He will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the Barça fans on Sunday when the Blaugrana face Real Betis at Spotify Camp Nou in their final home match of the campaign.
“After four years filled with challenges and hard work, the time has come to move on,” Lewandowski wrote on Instagram.
“I leave feeling that the mission has been accomplished. Four seasons, three championships. I will never forget the love from the fans from my very first day. Catalonia will always feel like home.
“Thank you to everyone I met throughout these unforgettable four years.
“A special thanks to president Joan Laporta for giving me the chance to experience the most incredible chapter of my career.
“Barça is back where it belongs.”
Lewandowski has rotated in and out of the lineup this season, sharing the No. 9 role with Ferran Torres.
Even so, he remained productive in front of goal, scoring 18 times as Barcelona captured both LaLiga and the Spanish Supercopa titles.
Since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2022 for €45 million ($53 million), the Poland international has scored 119 goals in 191 appearances for Barça.
During his time in Spain, he won LaLiga three times, along with three Supercopa trophies and one Copa del Rey title.
