Bernardo Silva signs two-year deal with Real Madrid
Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, the Spanish giants announced on Wednesday.
Silva joins Madrid after leaving Manchester City at the end of last season when his contract expired, bringing an end to a highly successful nine-year spell at the Premier League club.
"Real Madrid C.F. and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028," the club said.
The 31-year-old arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu as one of the most decorated players of his generation. Since joining Manchester City from Monaco in 2017, Silva made 459 appearances and scored 76 goals.
During his time in England, he won 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League as part of City's treble-winning campaign in 2023.
Before moving to Manchester, Silva helped Monaco win the Ligue 1 title in 2017 alongside current Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.
Silva has earned 109 caps for Portugal and is currently representing his country at his third FIFA World Cup. He is expected to feature when Portugal begin their Group K campaign against DR Congo in Houston later on Wednesday.
Madrid are rebuilding after a disappointing season in which they finished second in La Liga and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Club president Florentino Perez appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach earlier this month, while Madrid have also strengthened their squad with the signing of Spain international Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.
