Netherlands and Morocco clash in standout FIFA World Cup 2026™ last-32 tie
The Netherlands and Morocco meet in what is widely regarded as the standout fixture of the World Cup last 32 on Tuesday at Monterrey Stadium, with a place in the last 16 at stake.
Three-time World Cup runners-up the Netherlands face 2022 semi-finalists Morocco in a contest that is considered the hardest tie of the round.
The teams are ranked eighth and seventh in the world respectively, with both squads boasting talent drawn from Europe's top leagues.
Morocco's squad includes Dutch-born Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui and forward Ismael Saibari, who was named the best player in the Dutch league last season after helping PSV Eindhoven win the title before securing a move to Bayern Munich.
The winners will face Canada in the last 16.
Co-hosts Canada booked their place in the knockout stage for the first time after edging South Africa 1-0 in Los Angeles.
Captain Stephen Eustaquio scored the only goal in the second minute of stoppage time.
"I think the effect that it will have in Canada and the inspiring of people will be immense," Canada coach Jesse Marsch said.
