Mexico vs England World Cup clash delayed by severe weather
Kick-off in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 meeting between Mexico and England has been delayed due to severe weather in Mexico City, FIFA has confirmed.
The match at Mexico City Stadium was postponed after thunderstorms moved across the area, with FIFA implementing its weather safety protocols to protect players, match officials, stadium staff and supporters.
The match will resume at 7:00pm local time (04:00 Mecca time).
Supporters inside the stadium were instructed to remain under cover while officials monitored the weather before the revised kick-off time was announced.
The delay marks another weather-related interruption at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. France's group-stage meeting with Iraq in Philadelphia was suspended for more than two hours because of severe weather, while Mexico's Round of 32 victory over Ecuador was also delayed by storms.
The winners of the tie will advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway following the Scandinavian side's surprise victory over Brazil.
