Courtois ruled out of Euro 2024 despite club return
Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out of EURO 2024 by Domenico Tedesco, despite making a return to the Real Madrid squad.
The 31 year-old has missed the entire season and needed another knee operation in March after a setback in his recovery.
Carlo Ancelotti said Courtois could make a full return for Madrid's LaLiga match against Cadiz this weekend, after naming him on the bench for the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Despite Courtois making a return to action before Belgium has to announce its squad for Euro 2024 in Germany, Tedesco was clear that he would not be chosen.
"On this topic, everything has already been said. I don't want a tit-for-tat situation," Tedesco said. "We are focusing on players who are in good shape."
Courtois has somewhat fallen down the pecking order since Tedesco's appointment in February 2023, with the goalkeeper overlooked as captain when Romelu Lukaku was chosen after an injury to Kevin De Bruyne.
Belgium starts its Euro 2024 campagin against Slovakia on 17 June before facing Romania and Ukraine.
