Napoli left to rue misses in Eintracht stalemate
Napoli's winless run in the Champions League continued, as it was held to a goalless draw by Eintracht Frankfurt at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The host side began on the front foot and nearly took the lead after 13 minutes, when Eljif Elmas drilled a powerful left-footed strike on target, forcing Michael Zetterer into a diving stop.
Despite dominating possession, Napoli was left to rue a series of missed opportunities as Scott McTominay twice turned wide, while Frank Anguissa fired narrowly over the bar from 20 yards out.
Frankfurt should have taken the lead 73 minutes in when Napoli failed to clear a set-piece, with the ball falling for Ansgar Knauff, whose close-range effort at the far post was denied by a sensational save from Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Napoli squandered a golden chance to seal the game in the 83rd minute when Anguissa squared for McTominay six yards out, only for the midfielder to blaze over the bar, before Rasmus Hojlund saw a desperate volley saved by Zetterer in stoppage time.
The draw leaves Napoli 19th in the Champions League standings on four points, level with Frankfurt, which remains a spot ahead on goal difference.
