Napoli loses again as Bologna proves too strong
Napoli saw its winless run extend to five games after UEFA Champions League-chasing Bologna secured a 2-0 win with two quickfire goals at its lacklustre host in Serie A.
Forward Dan Ndoye gave Bologna the lead in the ninth minute, heading home from point-blank range, before defender Stefan Posch nodded in to double the advantage three minutes later after a corner.
Napoli should have pulled one back soon after when it was awarded a penalty for Remo Freuler's foul on Victor Osimhen but Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia kept out Matteo Politano's low shot.
Bologna, at least temporarily, moved up to third on 67 points, leapfrogging Juventus, on 66, which hosts relegated Salernitana on Monday (AEST).
Napoli is eighth on 51 points as last season's Scudetto winner continues to struggle to match its heroics from the previous term.
Manager Francesco Calzona may point to Napoli's underwhelming home form, having not won any of its past five Serie A outings at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
By contrast, Bologna's 67-point haul with two games left in the league marks its best in the three-points-per-win era, since the 1963-1964 season when it managed 70.
