Nervy Salford seals its place at Wembley final
Kallum Cesay netted an extra-time equaliser to send Salford City to Wembley after a nerve-jangling 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town proved enough to win their EFL League Two semi-final play-off 4-3 on aggregate.
Cesay's 117th-minute strike send the home fans wild with delight, including the likes of former England and Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, who is the club's director of football.
The Peninsula Stadium was similarly jubilant when the hosts took the lead after a goalles first half, Daniel Udoh volleying home at close range for the opening goal of the second leg to put his side 3-1 up on aggregate and seemingly cruising to the final.
But the Mariners sparked a little panic when first Kieran Green headed home with 17 minutes of normal time remaining before Jaze Kebia tapped in four minutes later to make it 2-1 to the visitors on the night and 3-3 on aggregate, ultimately forcing extra-time.
The extra-half an hour proved to be cagey as both sides tried desperately not to make a mistake, but with three minutes to go before a possible penalty shootout, Cesay pounced on a defensive error as Grimsby switched off momentarily, and scored to send his side through to the final, where it will meet Notts County.
County went through 1-0 on aggregate after holding Chesterfield to a 0-0 draw at home in the second leg of their tie.
