Win over Costa Rica 'exactly what England wished for', says Tuchel
England rounded off their World Cup preparations with a comfortable win over Costa Rica, much to the delight of head coach Thomas Tuchel.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel was "very proud" after his side's win over Costa Rica was "exactly what we wished for".
The Three Lions won 3-0 in their final World Cup warm-up game, with Declan Rice, Anthony Gordon and Ollie Watkins getting on the scoresheet.
England remain unbeaten in their last 17 games against North/Central American opposition (W13 D4), including all three of their meetings with Costa Rica (W2 D1).
And heading into the World Cup, England have now won each of their last nine games played either away or at a neutral venue – their longest ever such run.
They have also kept seven successive clean sheets in away/neutral games – also a record for the Three Lions.
England have kept 11 clean sheets in their 14 games under Tuchel in all competitions. They have faced just 75 shots (just one v Costa Rica) and 6.4 xGA (0.03 v Costa Rica) in these fixtures.
England's next game will be their World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17, and Tuchel was delighted with how their final friendly panned out.
"We did very well, and we deserved to win," Tuchel told ITV.
"We should have had more goals - we created a lot. The attitude, the energy, the intensity was on a very high level.
"Everyone did well. It is not about one individual player today. A very good team performance and we want to have this to push to the next level, and we clearly got it.
"This makes my mind very calm as we're absolutely on the right way. The guys who came were super influential. The guys who came out were pushing from behind on the bench - exactly what we wanted."
"What we saw was exactly what we wished for and exactly what we wanted. Very proud. Next stop, Kansas."
