‘Settle The Score Once And For All’ – Numsurin Ready To Silence Songchainoi And Doubters At ONE Friday Fights 160
Numsurin Chor Ketwina pulled off one of the biggest upsets in ONE Friday Fights history, earned a life-changing contract, and challenged for a World Title. Then, the losses came. Now, the Thai star arrives at ONE Friday Fights 160 on June 26 with a point to prove – and the man standing across from him is the same man he shocked the first time around.
A Massive Start And Then A Hard Fall
When Numsurin joined ONE Friday Fights, he hit the ground running.
Five straight wins built toward the biggest moment of his career – a majority decision victory over “Mini Hulk” Songchainoi Kiatsongrit that snapped a nine-bout winning streak, earned him a life-changing contract, a global roster spot, and a shot at the inaugural ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title. It was the kind of run that defines a fighter's legacy.
Then came the reality check. Nadaka Yoshinari defeated him in November, denying him the chance to make history as the division's first World Champion. And this past March, he dropped a decision to compatriot Pet Suanluangrodyok. Two losses in a row – a first for Numsurin in his ONE Championship tenure, and a test of his character that most fighters dread.
"Dropping two fights in a row definitely takes a bit of a toll on your confidence, but I'm not the type of guy to sit around and pout over a loss," Numsurin said.
"The very next day, I was right back in the gym working on fixing my mistakes. Right now, my mindset is back at 100 percent. I don't feel any pressure at all. I'm just ready to go out there, put on a show, and get back into the win column."
Settling The Debate Once And For All
Not everyone believed his first win over Songchainoi told the full story.
The online reaction was predictable – a knockdown in round one had some convinced the result could have gone the other way. Numsurin is not bothered by any of it. He understands why the noise exists and welcomes the rematch as the cleanest possible answer.
What actually happened: Numsurin absorbed an early knockdown, composed himself, and put Songchainoi on the canvas in the second round with a well-timed left hook. He walked away with the decision. Whether the crowd accepted it or not was never his problem to solve.
"Even though I took the win, the general consensus online was that I got lucky. Almost everyone claimed that if I had been counted in the first round, I would've lost. I wasn't surprised by that reaction at all, though," Numsurin explained.
"Songchainoi is a big name with a massive fanbase, so it's only natural that people were upset I beat their guy. I'm sure Songchainoi is still kicking himself over that missed count in the first round too. But that's fine. It's great that we're finally running it back so we can settle the score once and for all."
Prepared For War
Numsurin has watched Songchainoi closely since their first meeting – including his five-round battle with Nadaka at ONE SAMURAI 1 – and he arrives at this rematch with a detailed picture of who he is facing.
The "Mini-Hulk" carries the heaviest hands in the division and an iron chin that makes finishing him a serious challenge. Head movement and slipping shots are non-negotiable. Standing in front of those hooks and trying to block them is a losing proposition.
But Numsurin also sees the cracks. Songchainoi's kicking game lacks the same pop as his punches. They are slower, lighter, and less decisive. And whatever version shows up on Friday, Numsurin has a plan for it.
"I see the fight going one of two ways. The first scenario is that he comes out swinging and tries to turn it into a dogfight like he always does. But even if he decides to switch things up and play a technical, tactical game, I'm not worried at all. I've prepared a game plan for every single scenario," Numsurin said.
"I know putting Songchainoi away is no easy task. But the moment he slips up, I'm confident that my strikes are fast and explosive enough to make him the first person to get knocked out cold in ONE."
