Benwarwar Is Ready To Silence Kongklai At ONE Friday Fights 162 After Being Called Just A 'Big Body’
Adam "El Capitano" Benwarwar already made a statement the last time he competed, but he's arriving at ONE Friday Fights 162 in Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium with even more to say this time around – and a fresh fire lit by a veteran who dared to question his skills.
A Statement Knockout Fuels His Momentum
After dropping his promotional debut in late February, Benwarwar answered emphatically, as he blasted American rising star Kendu Irving with a right hand in just 52 seconds this past May.
The 23-year-old Moroccan barely had time to celebrate before being given his next assignment nearly a month later, sending him straight into a fresh training camp at Petchsaman Gym.
"I had five weeks to train and because I had five weeks, I had enough time to balance everything – my technique, my cardio, and my kicks and hands," Benwarwar said. "So, that's why I am in very, very good shape for this fight."
Motivated By Words, Not Just The Record Book
Standing across from him will be Kongklai Sor Sommai, a Siam Omnoi Stadium Champion and the 2020 Sports Authority of Thailand Fighter of the Year, whose momentum was halted by a knockdown-fueled decision loss that snapped his three-bout winning streak.
The Thai veteran remains hungry to reclaim his footing, but Benwarwar has extra motivation of his own, and that could spell bad news for his rival.
"I heard that Kongklai said I have nothing except a very big body," Benwarwar explained. "I want to show and prove that I'm not just a big body. I have everything, all the Muay Thai elements, and I want to show everyone and let them see in this fight."
A Knockout Bonus Is Already Circled
Benwarwar has studied Kongklai closely, and he isn't shy about his conclusion: he doesn't see a single element of his opponent's game that concerns him.
The Moroccan hard-hitter is already plotting the finish. He’s confident about exactly how it will happen, and it could be eerily similar to the highlight-reel moment he produced against Irving a few months ago.
"My plan to achieve the bonus for this fight is with a right hook. I'm very confident with the right hook," Benwarwar said. "If I try to punch with the right hand, there's probably like a 90 percent chance it's going to lead to a knockdown. I'm very confident for that, and with the left hook as well."
