Pliskova edges Gavrilova in Tokyo thriller
Former world number one Karolina Pliskova fought back to beat Australian Daria Gavrilova in a thrilling round of 16 clash at the Pan Pacific Open.
Gavrilova got off to a strong start, winning the first game 6-4, before Pliskova fought back and took the last four games of the match to edge out the Australian in the round of 16.
Gavrilova looked poised to pull off a rare Pliskova double after beating Kristyna on Tuesday (AEST) but Pliskova composed herself in the second set.
"I was just trying to be positive even though I dropped my racquet and I missed some easy balls. I was trying to fight because there's always a chance. I knew if I served well, I had a good chance at the end of the third set."
