Jones wants England to rewrite history Down Under
England heads to Australia for three Tests in June, and coach Eddie Jones wants his side to rewrite history.
Eddie Jones is determined for England to address its poor record in Australia when it travels Down Under for a three-Test series in June.
England, off the back of winning a first Six Nations grand slam since 2003 under Jones, takes on the Wallabies in Brisbane on 11 June before further clashes in Melbourne and Sydney.
Jones believes England has the talent to match Australia and says preparation will be key if it is to triumph over the country of his birth.
"I've been thinking about Australia all the time," Jones said. "If you look at the history of Test match rugby since Captain Cook arrived in Australia we've only won three Tests, so that's not a great record.
"We need to do things completely differently to change that record. We want to write some new history in Australia so it's a lovely opportunity for us.
"If you don't win in Australia it's because you haven't prepared well, if they've got more talent than us then they might beat us but I don't believe they'[ve got more talent than us so it's all about getting the preparation right.
"We have to get our set piece and scrum more dominant. It wasn't dominant during the Six Nations. We need that scrum to be dominant, that's a key area.
"Secondly in defence, we were excellent, we really improved, but at stages we get a little bit tight so we need to have that consistency in our spacing.
"Thirdly we need to be smarter in how we use the ball. We have a certain strategy we believe England should play, we are not going to differ greatly from that.
"It's about changing bits and pieces and those bits and pieces might only be 20 per cent of the game but they are important."
