Manchester United's new home kit a nod to history
Manchester United released its new two-tone home kit overnight to mixed reviews.
Manchester United has released its new home kit, featuring a two-toned design.
Created by sponsor adidas, the strip was shown off across the club's various online channels, with the side also launching it while on tour in China.
For those not convinced by the half-half look, the Red Devils pushed out a video of Inigo Turner, a senior designer on the project, to explain what it was all about — in a nutshell, history and worker bees.
United fans hoping to deck themselves out in the fresh threads won't be able to do so without parting with some serious hard-earned, however. The shirt alone costs £60 ($105), with a full kit likely to set you back around £103 ($181). For junior kits, the price tag is around £80 ($140) for the full outfit.
The kit launch itself was a predictably bizarre affair, featuring a DJ wearing "Red Devil" horns and some pseudo-Asian extras and stage props, presumably tipping the hat to China rather than anything else.
Manchester United has been in mixed form in pre-season, most recently losing 4-1 to Borussia Dortmund on the tour in China.
Its next match sees it go up against rival Manchester City on 25 July, which will see United's new boss Jose Mourinho go into a tactical head-to-head against City's new mentor, Pep Guardiola, for the first time since April 2012, when they were in charge at Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
