Despite missing out on Euro 2016, Sebastian Giovinco wants incoming Italy coach Giampiero Ventura to know that he is still very much available for the Azzurri.

Toronto FC star Giovinco, who is the reigning Major League Soccer MVP after a blistering 2015 campaign that saw him lead the league in both goals and assists, was left off Antonio Conte's squad for this summer's continental competition. With Conte having moved on to Premier League giant Chelsea, Giovinco has thrown his hat back in the ring for his national team. 

"It no longer makes sense to think about it, it's in the past," Giovinco told Gazzetta dello Sport about his Euro 2016 snub. "Of course I'm putting forth my name for a place in the national team in this new cycle. I'm ready.

"Ventura? I've met him and we've spoken on several occasions, but never in great detail about soccer."

Giovinco said he has no hard feelings about missing out on Euro 2016, noting that he watched the tournament on television and that Italy had a "great" run to the semifinals. 

According to Conte, the 29-year-old was omitted from the Italian squad because he plays in MLS. Despite that, Giovinco said he hopes to convince his countrymen that playing in the North American circuit is a worthwhile experience.

"Football's growing here and it can keep on growing too," he said (via ESPN). "I can only reaffirm that it's been a beautiful experience which I would recommend to any Italian player if they were ever to have any doubts.

"I'm based in Toronto, but I'm always in the USA for games. It's a beautiful country which gives you so much."
