Paper Round: Manchester United Move For Marquinhos, Robert Lewandowski Heart Set On Real Madrid
All the latest transfer rumors from the main European papers
A patient Pole
Robert Lewandowski. A name that will no doubt headline the transfer columns this summer, but it might all well be futile. The Bayern Munich man has apparently decided on his next move, and if the Independent are to be believed, the Polish striker has agreed to join Real Madrid. It means he will snub overtures from the Premier League, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all linked. Lewandowski has decided his future is best spent at Bernabeu though, and is prepared to see this summer and the following season out at Bayern, before joining Real Madrid when their transfer ban is lifted. He must really want this one to happen…
The English are coming...to Roma again?!
Not to be burnt by their experience with Ashley Cole, it appears AS Roma have plans to swoop for another England defender. The London Evening Standard reports that the Italian outfit are looking to move for Chelsea’s Gary Cahill.
The defender has been out of the team this season, and is apparently growing concerned that his Euro 2016 place could be up for grabs. A move to Roma, who are seeking a new defensive outlook under Luciano Spalletti, will apparently bring Cahill more games. Guus Hiddink insists however, that the 30-year-old has a future at the London club.
Foxes denied in pursuit of Milan prey
SportMediaSet ran an interesting story on M'Baye Niang of Milan. Apparently Leicester City got in touch with the Italian side, and were even willing to state they’d be down for dropping €16m on the striker.
However, Milan chief Adriano Galliani and Niang both thought about the move overnight, and decided it would be a resounding NO from them. With time left in the window, Milan always looking to generate some cash, and the Foxes in an unlikely title challenge, things could change.
Atleti holding on to their Golden Boy
The golden boy of Atletico Madrid will reportedly stay after all. Oliver Torres, held up as Atleti’s next big thing, has struggled to find his way at the club and an exit seemed all but certain this January. However, Marca report a meeting has taken place at the club, and it has been decided the player must be kept at the club given his enormous talent and potential future value to Atleti.
Oliver’s distinct qualities, different from the rest of his squad, apparently mean Simeone wants the youngster around. It will mean a host of disappointed clubs, with Borussia Dortmund, Oporto and Benfica all monitoring the situation for some time.
X Marq's the spot
As one former Manchester United defender retires, the quest goes on to finally replace him. Marquinhos is apparently the man, and the Daily Star say the Brazilian is unhappy at Parc des Princes due to a lack of playing time. A move in this current January window, is something that appeals to the 21-year-old. Barcelona continue to track Marquinhos however, so United won’t exactly have a free run. Still, PSG remain reluctant to sell as they view the defender as Thiago Silva’s eventual replacement.
