Landon Donovan will return to the LA Galaxy for the remainder of the season, sources confirmed to Goal's Ives Galarcep.
The former U.S. international retired from the club at the age of 32 in December 2014 after a stellar career in Major League Soccer, where he holds the all-time goals and assists records.
The Cauldron's Blake Thomsen first reported the news from his Twitter account Thursday morning.
Donovan began his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2001 before joining the Galaxy in 2005. He stayed in LA for nearly a decade before announcing his retirement midway through the 2014 season, citing a loss of passion for the game as part of his reason for calling it quits.
Donovan, who has scored 169 goals during his MLS career, is the only player to win six MLS Cups. The league named its MVP trophy after him last year.
On the international level, Donovan is the U.S. team's all-time leading scorer with 57 goals. He has played in three World Cups and won four Gold Cups.
The Galaxy are currently in third place in the Western Conference with 44 points.
