VIDEO | Gregg Berhalter Took Inspiration from Michael Jordan for Team USA
Gregg Berhalter, the head coach of the United States, addressed the media after his team clinched their third consecutive CONCACAF Nations League title by defeating Mexico 2-0.
When asked about the team's methodology and how they managed to win three times in a row, Berhalter revealed, "I showed them Michael Jordan with three fingers up holding the trophy, and that's what we wanted."
"We put the Nations League trophy in that Jordan photo, that was our focus," he added.
The US head coach also stated on Sunday that his team performs better in high-pressure games, as seen in the CONCACAF Nations League final where they overcame Mexico.
"We reacted well under pressure; in games of this level, we perform better. This is what we are preparing for because tournaments like the Copa America and the World Cup are coming," said Berhalter after his team's 2-0 victory over Mexico in the final.
"We wanted the trophy, we wanted to celebrate with those three fingers up. I congratulate my players because they played a great game in this final, and we are leaving happy, especially for the fans."
