A Referee Saved the Life of a Player who Lost Consciousness in the Bundesliga
The overwhelming victory of Bayern Munich over Mainz wasn't the highlight of the weekend in German football; instead, an incredible action by referee Patrick Ittrich stood out, as he saved the life of Joshua Guilavogui, former Saint-Étienne player.
"When someone is in that situation, you have to act quickly. I've experienced many situations like this. His tongue was back. You have to pull it out, and then you can breathe again," stated the referee after "bringing back to life" the 33-year-old French player, who was knocked unconscious after accidentally hitting his head against the knee of his teammate Anthony Caci.
"Amiri immediately hugged me because he realized the seriousness of the situation," added Ittrich in the mixed zone.
Although Guilavogui was able to get up by himself and wanted to return to the field, Mainz's coach, Danish Bo Henriksen, didn't allow it and immediately substituted him. Later on, the French defender thanked the heroic gesture of the German referee.
