VIDEO | Beckham's Iconic Goal and the Memorable Shirt Request to Pibe Valderrama
David Beckham treated us to one of the best goals in his collection 26 years ago. And what better stage to deliver it than in a World Cup, specifically the 1998 edition in France.
The match was England vs Colombia in the group stage of the World Cup. The English team was leading 1-0 after a goal from Darren Anderton in the 20th minute. However, nine minutes later, a foul was called in favor of the reigning world champions from 1966.
The free-kick taker was none other than Beckham. The set-piece specialist executed his free kick from over 30 meters away perfectly, leaving the Colombian goalkeeper with no chance to save, making it 2-0 for his team.
After scoring one of the most exquisite goals ever seen in a World Cup, Beckham ran to ask for Carlos "Pibe" Valderrama's shirt, one of the greatest figures in Colombian football.
