Totti Set to Return to Football in Mexico
Former Italian footballer Francesco Totti will return to the pitch at the Kings World Cup, Kosmos's 7-a-side football competition, held in Mexico from May 26 to June 9, gathering 32 teams.
The Italian squad, named 'Stallions', will be led by the 2006 World Cup champion alongside the popular Italian content creator Tumblurr, who boasts over 2.5 million followers on social media.
"A great team doesn't just play, it plays to win," said the footballer in a video posted on the Kings League Italia's X account.
The announcement was made on social media with a sketch in which Piqué hands Tumblurr a captain's armband, asking him to pass it on to a "legend," Totti, who then wears it on his left arm, where he proudly wore the Roma's armband for many years.
The competition, taking place from May 26 to June 9 in Mexico, will feature a group stage in a Swiss format, with 40 direct matches, followed by knockout rounds from the round of 16 to the final for the title.
Of the 32 participating teams, ten will be from America, ten from Spain, and the rest from 12 invited countries, yet to be determined, often featuring other global football stars like Iker Casillas, Sergio 'Kun' Agüero, or Miguel Layún, among others.
So far, two teams from Brazil are confirmed, FURIA FC featuring Neymar Junior, and G3X FC, led by Alexandre Borba Chiqueta, better known as Gaules, a Twitch streamer who has been the most-watched non-English content creator on the platform for four years.
The winner, in addition to lifting the first Kings League World Cup trophy, will pocket a million dollars in cash, courtesy of Kosmos, Gerard Piqué's company.
