Official: Xabi Alonso Confirms The Club He Will Manage Next Season
Xabi Alonso confirmed in a press conference that he will continue leading Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga for at least another year.
"My work at Bayer is not finished yet. I want to contribute to the club, help the players keep growing, the management is great... everything is fantastic here. Although I am a young coach, I believe this is the best decision for my future. I have taken my time and I am sure of it," said the 42-year-old coach, as quoted by the "Bild" newspaper.
He detailed that last week he had a "good conversation" with the club's executives, to whom he communicated his desire to continue at Bayer Leverkusen, and this morning he shared his decision with the entire team.
"Despite everything, it has been a normal day; we must prepare for the weekend's match. After this press conference, I am completely focused on that. The players have handled these turbulent weeks well," he emphasized.
Regarding interest from other clubs, including Bayern Munich and Liverpool, he stated that "it would not be appropriate" to talk about it at this time.
