Muguruza into world's top 10 after Wimbledon run
A place in the world's top 10 is the reward for Garbine Muguruza after she reached the Wimbledon final.
Garbine Muguruza is into the top 10 of the WTA world rankings following her run to the Wimbledon final.
Muguruza surprised many by reaching the showpiece at the All England Club, where she was beaten by world number one Serena Williams, seeing off the likes of Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki and Agnieszka Radwanska en route to the final.
And the Spaniard has been rewarded with a jump of 11 places in the rankings, which sees her go from number 20th to number nine.
Maria Sharapova, who lost to Williams in the semi-finals, is up from four to two, with Simona Halep staying in third despite her opening-round loss to Jana Cepelova.
Caroline Wozniacki rises from five to four in spite of her last-16 elimination at the hands of Muguruza, but Petra Kvitova is down from two to five after her Wimbledon title defence ended in the third round.
Radwanska's progress to the last four sees her move up[ six places to number seven, while quarter-finalists Madison Keys and Victoria Azarenka are into the top 20 at 18 and 19 respectively.
By contrast Eugenie Bouchard paid for her continuing miserable run of form, the 2014 Wimbledon finalist tumbling from 12 to 26 following her first-round defeat to qualifier Duan Ying-ying.
