Kuznetsova targets Muguruza 'revenge'
Svetlana Kuznetsova has booked her spot in the last four of the WTA Finals, but she still wants a win over Garbine Muguruza.
Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova wants "revenge" against Garbine Muguruza at the WTA Finals.
The world number nine fought her way to a 3-6 6-2 7-6 (8-6) victory over Karolina Pliskova in Singapore on Wednesday.
Kuznetsova is into the semi-finals, but still has a final White Group match against Muguruza to come on Friday.
While she may already be in the last four, Kuznetsova still wants a win over Muguruza, the Spanish French Open champion who beat her at Roland Garros this year.
"I lost to her in the French Open and I would like to get my revenge, but you never know," she said.
"She's one of the toughest opponents here, and I'm just taking it one match at a time and just trying to do my best."
Kuznetsova had given up a 6-3 lead in the third-set tie-break against Pliskova before securing her victory with a backhand winner down the line.
"I was 6-3 up and then she got back, and then I got tense and it was 6-6. They were important points," she said.
"And then I got this winner down the line for match point. It was a crazy shot. So I was really pleased."
