Gasquet claims inaugural Antwerp crown
Frenchman Richard Gasquet avoided becoming Diego Schwartzman's fourth seeded victim at the European Open to lift his second title of 2016.
Richard Gasquet collected his second title of 2016 with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Diego Schwartzman at the European Open.
For the second consecutive ATP season the Frenchman has secured two tournament successes and after a tight opening set he cruised to a 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 triumph.
A break in the fifth game of the match gave Gasquet an early opening in the final but he was unable to see it out easily, wasting three set points at 5-4.
Schwartzman - who had disposed of three seeds on his way to Sunday's showpiece - battled back and, having broken his rival, managed to force a tie-break.
In the breaker it was Gasquet who prevailed and he did not look back, Schwartzman able to hold his first service game of the second set before losing five in a row.
It fell to Gasquet to serve out for the match and he showed no signs of nerves with a game to love to become the inaugural champion in Antwerp.
