Halep double bagels sorry Sevastova to win Bucharest title
Anastasija Sevastova endured a nightmare Bucharest Open final as she suffered a dismal double bagel against Simona Halep.
Simona Halep recorded a rare double bagel as she battered a sorry Anastasija Sevastova 6-0 6-0 to win the Bucharest Open for the second time on Sunday.
Latvian Sevastova was expected to provide a stern contest for the top seed having already knocked out Sara Errani and Laura Siegemund in a brilliant run to the clay-court final.
But the seventh seed was woefully short against the world number five, who needed just 48 minutes to seal a second WTA Tour title of the season.
Halep had to come from behind to beat Vania King in the semi-finals, but from the outset it was clear that she was in for no such battle against Sevastova and the first set was wrapped up in just 21 minutes.
Sevastova, who had a 3-1 head-to-head record against Halep before the final, continued to struggle in the second set and Halep raced into a 4-0 lead.
There was brief resolve shown by Sevastova, who earned a couple of break points in game five, but the threat was quickly quelled by Halep.
And Sevastova's misery was finally put to an end when she was broken to love in the final game, as Halep added to the title she won at the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2014.
