Manchester United look set to reveal that manager Jose Mourinho has signed a new two-year contract extension with the side.
Talks between the two parties have been ongoing for some time now, with a breakthrough in recent days. Mourinho is looking to improve his current deal of £15m a year plus bonuses, to reflect the progress that the club has made under his management. The extension would keep Mourinho tied to the club till 2021, past his current deal which runs to 2019.
Mourinho joined United in the summer of 2016, winning the League Cup and Europa League in his first season in charge, returning United back to the Champions League. Whilst under the Portuguese coach the club has spent significantly, including the then world record fee for French midfielder Paul Pogba.
United are currently heavily linked with a January move for Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez, although much of the deal focuses on the future of midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the Armenian being used as a makeweight in any transfer between the two clubs.
The 54-year old manager has never stayed longer than three seasons with a club, although it is widely believed that Mourinho sees his long-term future at Old Trafford with his main focus on returning the club to winning the Premier League crown, something they have yet to do since Sir Alex Ferguson won the clubs 20th league crown before retiring in 2013.
Manchester United are currently 12 points behind local rivals Manchester City in second place in the Premier League standings.
