Hohns appointed Australia chief selector on interim basis
Following the resignation of Rod Marsh on Wednesday, Cricket Australia has appointed Trevor Hohns chief selector on an interim basis.
Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed Trevor Hohns as interim chairman of selectors following the resignation of Rod Marsh on Wednesday, with former captain Greg Chappell joining the panel.
Marsh was due to leave the position following the expiration of his contract in 2017 but stepped down prematurely after Australia were crushed by an innings and 80 runs in the second Test against South Africa.
His position will temporarily be taken by Hohns, who served as a selector from 1993 to 2006, including a 10-year spell as chairman, before joining the panel in 2014.
CA chairman David Peever said in a statement: "It is vital that Australian cricket finds the best candidate for this role. Trevor is highly experienced as a selector, and will ensure we place our best players on the field this summer while we seek a permanent replacement for Rod."
Chappell has served as a selector twice previously and joins the panel again on an interim basis, relinquishing his role as national talent manager in the meantime.
"Greg has been instrumental in restructuring our youth pathway program, driving the national performance squad, the introduction of a CA XI squad in the domestic one-day cup and creating clear pathways for talented youth in Australian cricket to aspire to wear the Baggy Green," said Peever.
"His in-depth knowledge of up-and-coming talent in the Australian system will be invaluable."
Despite the disappointing recent results, Peever backed the senior management in the Australia set-up to turn around their woeful recent form.
He added: "Naturally the board and our senior executive are disappointed with the recent Test performances, but we have every confidence that all those involved, including our coaching staff and team management, will do their utmost to turn that around."
