Burgess confident of delivering at Rugby World Cup
Sam Burgess is confident he can be England's star man at the Rugby World Cup after making Stuart Lancaster's final 31-man squad.
Dual-code star Sam Burgess has vowed to repay the faith shown in him by England coach Stuart Lancaster and make the difference at the Rugby World Cup.
The former rugby league player has impressed in the back row since switching codes to Bath this season, but he continues to be used in the centre for England.
Burgess – who has only played 70 minutes of international rugby since making the move to rugby union - was selected ahead of Luther Burrell, and he is confident he can bring a new dimension to England's game.
"I am proud of what I've achieved so far, but the job is not finished yet," he told the Daily Mail. "I'm not arrogant but I've got strong belief in myself and I know what I can offer.
"I believe I am ready to add something and help this England team. I've made the 31 but I want to go on from that now. I don't want to just make up the numbers at the World Cup.
"Whether you are selected or not, you have to be a professional, to make sure the team perform as well as possible and credit should go to all the lads who have been in camp.
"But I feel comfortable and I believe that if I get a chance to play, I can do the job.
"The coaches certainly believe in me and so do I. I'm ready to play and make a difference on the field."
