Patriots RBs Burkhead, Gillislee out against Titans
Running backs Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee are both inactive for the divisional round game against the Tennessee Titans.
The New England Patriots' running-back-by-committee group will be without two members in Saturday's NFL divisional round matchup with the Tennessee Titans.
Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee are inactive for Saturday's game at Gillette Stadium. Although both backs practiced in a limited capacity on Thursday, they will not face the Titans.
Burkhead, who injured his knee against the Pittsburgh Steelers last month and has not played since, has 518 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns this season.
Gillislee, who is second on the Patriots with 383 rushing yards, has been dealing with a knee injury he suffered against the Buffalo Bills on December 24.
However, there is some good news for the reigning Super Bowl champions Patriots.
Running back James White – fourth on the team with 56 receptions – will play. An ankle injury sidelined him the past two games.
On a related note on the passing game, wide receiver Chris Hogan is also in the line-up for the first time since early December. He had been dealing with a shoulder issue.
In the wake of all the recent injuries, Dion Lewis has stepped up as the workhorse of the Patriots backfield. He averaged more than 140 total yards in the Pats' last two regular season games, with four touchdowns.
