Jones keen to end career with Falcons after lucrative extension
The Atlanta Falcons will have one of the best receivers in the NFL for years to come, with the franchise inking Julio Jones to an extension.
Julio Jones says he wants to stay with the Atlanta Falcons for the rest of his career after the wide receiver signed a lucrative five-year contract extension.
The Falcons tied two-time Pro Bowler Jones to a deal reported to be worth $71.25million, with $47.5m guaranteed.
"I didn't have any doubt in my mind that we were going to get it done," Jones said. "Whether it was this year or next year, we were going to get a deal done.
"I want to be a Falcon for the rest of my career, and [chairman and owner] Mr [Arthur] Blank let it be known that he wanted me here as well."
Jones is coming off a season that saw him break the Falcons' single-season record for receiving yards as he posted 1,593 on 104 catches while also snagging six touchdowns, although Atlanta still failed to make the play-offs, finishing with a 6-10 record.
But Blank believes Jones is yet to reach his full potential.
"We could not be more thrilled to make Julio a Falcon for life," Blank said.
"Julio has established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL during his career and has already set the franchise record for receiving yards in a season.
"I am extremely proud of what he has accomplished and he has just begun to scratch the surface in terms of his potential."
