Donaldson beat eighth seed Diego Schwartzman 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 7-5, while Young also overcame a second-set wobble to down home hope Kyle Edmund 6-4 3-6 6-3.

Fifth seed Gael Monfils will take on Cameron Norrie after the Briton knocked out Horacio Zeballos, and Kevin Anderson overcame Thomaz Bellucci 6-3 6-1.

Meanwhile, Bernard Tomic defeated Norbert Gombos 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 and Robin Haase beat Nicolas Mahut 6-4 7-6 (7-4).

Also on the ATP Tour, Marcos Baghdatis was among the first-round winners at the Antalya Open.

The Cypriot beat Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2 6-1 and will now meet Carlos Berlocq in the next round, where the pair will be joined by Yuichi Sugita, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Radu Albot and Mohamed Safwat.
