Dortmund blasts put Bartra into surgery
The Borussia Dortmund team bus has been affected by an explosion ahead of Wednesday's (AEST) UEFA Champions League tie with Monaco.
Borussia Dortmund's UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg match against Monaco was postponed after three explosions rocked the German club's team bus prior to kick-off and injured its Spanish player Marc Bartra, forcing him into surgery.
Dortmund said the explosion occurred at the departure of the bus from the hotel around an hour ahead of the scheduled kick-off time at Signal Iduna Park, injuring Bartra, who was taken to hospital with a cut hand but later underwent surgery on a fractured wrist after being hurt in the blast.
Confusion reigned as news of the incident filtered through to the stadium, where Monaco players and fans of both teams were anticipating the match.
"Bomb explosion by the team bus at the team hotel. Players are safe. No danger at the stadium. More information to follow," the club posted on Twitter.
Dortmund's players did eventually arrived at the stadium under tight security, but were later told the match would be postponed after meetings between UEFA, both clubs and local authorities.
It has been rescheduled for Thursday, kicking off at 2:45am AEST.
