Hurzeler 'not thinking about Europe' despite Brighton boosting hopes with Wolves win
Brighton boosted their European hopes with a 2-0 victory over Wolves at Molineux, but Fabian Hurzeler is not getting distracted by that.
Fabian Hurzeler insisted he is "not thinking about Europe" despite Brighton boosting their continental ambitions with a 2-0 win at Wolves.
The Seagulls claimed only their second victory in nine matches across all competitions as goals from Danny Welbeck and Brajan Gruda sealed all three points at Molineux.
Hurzeler's side climbed to ninth place in the Premier League, level on points with Brentford in eighth, with two games remaining.
Brighton are in contention to secure a return to Europe next season, but Hurzeler's main focus is on tackling champions Liverpool at the Amex Stadium in nine days' time.
"I'm not thinking about Europe. I'm thinking about how we can win the next game," he told BBC Match of the Day.
"[I am] very happy that the players showed this performance. They stuck to the plan and defended quite well.
"[In the] second half, we defended quite well. In possession, we could do it better, but I was happy to take the chance to score the second goal."
Welbeck broke the deadlock from the penalty spot to take his Premier League goal tally for the season into double figures for the first time.
"It is a good milestone to have, and I feel like it could have been more," the forward told Premier League Productions. "I'm looking forward to improving. We have two more games left and, hopefully, I'll get some more [goals].
"I think we were up against a good side, and they're in good form. We knew we were going to be up against a tough opponent. We had a game plan, and we played it out well."
Meanwhile, it is back-to-back defeats for Wolves following their club-record run of six successive Premier League wins.
The hosts enjoyed 55.6% of possession, but registered just three shots on target with an xG of 0.91, and Vitor Pereira had no complaints at leaving Molineux empty handed.
"[In] the first half, we competed," he said. "We created some chances to finish, but missing the last shot, the last pass.
"The second half, in my opinion, we can do better. We tried to turn over the result. We missed some organisation - the game started to become unpredictable and very open.
"We played a lot with heart in the second half, but without the intelligence to control the pace. In the end, they punished us, and they deserve to win."
