The family of Nicky Hayden was honored today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca by District 5 Supervisor of Monterey County Mary Adams, who presented the Haydens with a certificate of recognition from the County of Monterey and the State of California.
“On behalf of the County of Monterey and the State of California, it’s an honor to be able to present this very small award of recognition in honor of your brother and your family,” Adams said. “It says, ‘This is a certificate of recognition in memory of Nicky Hayden who gave so much to so many through his love and devotion to his family and his love of motorcycle racing. His memory will live strong for all who knew him and those whose lives he touched. It’s with my deepest condolences and it’s signed by Senator William Monning, the senate majority leader the California State Legislature.’ “
“I just want to say that I’m a seventh-generation Kentucky born woman and to have the honor of presenting this award to the Hayden family is a very important one for me,” Adams added. “I think your brother would join in our saying, ‘United We Stand, Divided We Fall.’ I’m sure his memory will keep this family united forever.”
Tommy Hayden, the oldest of the Hayden siblings, accepted the award.
“Thank you very much for this,” Tommy Hayden said. “It’s really a nice gesture. In the last month or so since the accident there’s been a lot of nice things that people have done and said that for sure have helped us get through this period. Obviously, Laguna Seca is a very special place to Nicky and a very important place to our family. I know this is something he’d be very proud of and happy to receive. So thank you.”
