1) James ready for club and country comeback
Stop the looting! Put down the TV! Return to your homes! Take down the shutters! Everything is going to be ok.
James Rodriguez has confirmed that the muscle injury that saw the Colombian midfielder miss Real Madrid’s rather disastrous Champions League draw against Legia Warsaw is not as serious as some stories have suggested.
The Madrid man has soothed that he is ready, pumped and primed for any bench-sitting required on Sunday for the home clash against Leganes that you can catch live on beIN SPORTS at 6AM ET / 3PM PT. “I am fine and I am training,” beamed Madrid’s exiled outsider, who is set to be called up by Colombia for two monumental CONMEBOL World Cup-qualifying clashes against Chile and Argentina.
Speaking of midfielders who have not played much of late, there was very cheery news for the Madridista massive as Luka Modric was back in full training after minor knee surgery for the Croatian a month ago. There are even rumors that Modric could make the squad for the Leganes clash.
2) Pogba joins Old Trafford injury list
Paul Pogba looks set to miss Manchester United’s next clash, a Premier League encounter against Swansea City, after leaving Thursday’s Fenerbahce defeat early due to a thigh injury.
The midfielder’s ability to join up with France for next week’s international clashes must also be in some jeopardy. On another sour note, Jose Mourinho’s words after the Europa League loss are still ringing around the world with the Special One slamming his players for treating the game in Turkey like a “summer friendly.”
Tune into the XTRA at 7PM ET / 4PM PT to find out if Ray Hudson thinks Mourinho has permanently lost his managerial mojo.
3) Will Pep say Nein, Nein to Yaya after on-line apology?
Yaya Toure has realized that sitting about twiddling thumbs during Manchester City game-days is not a whole lot of fun. The footballer has finally apologized after rather meaty comments from his agent, Dimitri Seluk, who was critical of Pep Guardiola for leaving his client out of the club’s official Champions League squad. "I wish to apologize - on behalf of myself and those who represent me,” said the Ivory Coast midfielder in a statement published on his website.
4) FIFA rocks Friday in sensible idea shock
FIFA NEWS! As Sports Burst is in a weirdly chirpy mood today, it is going to throw a few crumbs of praise in the direction of the normally disreputable governing body for the beautiful game.
FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, has proposed measures such as all payments to agents being published and restrictions on mega-clubs – looking at you, Chelsea – skimming off young talent from smaller teams, hoarding them in their squad only to loan them out.
“It doesn’t feel right, for a club to just hoard the best young players and then to park them left and right, it’s not good for the development of the player, it’s not good for the club itself,” claimed Infantino to Reuters. Tis a miracle to be sure.
5) Villas Boas earns huge Portuguese pay day in China
It’s not just footballers who head to the Chinese Super League to earn absolute shed loads of cash but managers too. Former Chelsea coach, Andres Villas Boas, has opted for loot over the European spotlight by taking over at Shanghai SIPG, where the Portuguese will earn a reported salary of $13million a year. Villas Boas will now be hoping that The Donald does not win on Tuesday, to bring all the jobs back from ‘Ghina’.
