CAS Reduce Ban But Michel Platini Resigns From UEFA President Role
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has announced a reduction in Michel Platini's ban from football activity.
UEFA president Michel Platini's suspension from performing any football activity has been reduced from six years to four, but the Frenchman has decided to resign from his role as a result.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport announced that the ban would not be fully overturned, with Platini then deciding he would not proceed further with his case.
He said in a statement: "I take note of today's decision from CAS but I see it as a profound injustice.
"This decision inflicts a suspension on me that, as luck would have it, stops me from contesting the next election for the Fifa presidency.
The court said in a statement that the ban "corresponds to the duration of a presidential term". The court ruled that Platini was guilty of conflict of interest for taking a $2 million (£1.4m) payment from Fifa approved by Sepp Blatter in 2011.
