Claudio Ranieri Says Riyad Mahrez Is Happy At Leicester City
Claudio Ranieri is confident that Riyad Mahrez will remain at Leicester City, shunning interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri claims star playmaker Riyad Mahrez remains happy at the Premier League champion.
PFA Players' Player of the Year Mahrez was instrumental in the Foxes' astonishing title triumph last season, scoring 17 goals and assisting 10 more.
Top scorer Jamie Vardy was quick to shun advances from Arsenal and sign fresh terms with Leicester, but midfield powerhouse N'Golo Kante left for Chelsea last week in a reported 32 million pound ($41.9 million) deal.
Figures of £45M ($59M) had been quoted for Mahrez, who has apparently attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea.
Speaking after Leicester began preseason with a 2-1 win at Oxford United, in which Mahrez played the first half, Ranieri revealed the Algeria star will follow in the footsteps of Vardy.
"I think everybody here are happy and then, it's finished. The market is finished," he told Sky Sports News.
Pressed on Mahrez's specific future, the Italian beamed: "Yes, he wants to stay."
The news will boost Leicester supporters further after title-winning captain Wes Morgan signed a new contract, which runs until 2019, earlier on Tuesday.
