Scotland can stand up to physical Samoa test - Reid
Samoa are sure to provide a physical challenge for Scotland, but Gordon Reid says Vern Cotter's men can stand up to the challenge.
Gordon Reid is confident Scotland have the physicality to deal with a strong Samoa pack and secure the win that would book their place in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals.
Scotland lost their last Pool B fixture to South Africa, but having secured a bonus-point win over Japan and seen off the United States they are on the verge of a place in the last eight.
It would mark a return to the knockout stages after they missed out four years ago, but defeat would leave the door open for Japan.
However, prop Reid is confident Scotland have the talent to quell the threat of a Samoa side he expects to be fast out of the blocks in Saturday's contest at St James' Park.
"Everyone is saying it's a nothing match for them but they will be determined to finish on a high," Reid said.
"They have a big physical pack who play straight rugby pretty similar to South Africa, so hopefully we will wear them down and our physicality will come through and get us the win.
"The South Africa game was a very physical one and it was a good settler for the boys in terms of getting us in good stead for Samoa.
"But there are a lot of areas we have to look at, and we have to make sure we learn from last week and do some things differently to make sure they go right.
"We know it is not going to be easy. They are big and physical and they have beaten us before but we will be fresh coming into the weekend and we will be ready."
