Canada's Ted-Jan Bloemen broke the Netherlands' speed-skating stranglehold as he upstaged Dutch master Sven Kramer to win the 10,000m gold in a Games-record time at the Pyeongchang Olympics on Thursday.
Dutch-born Bloemen, second on Sunday to Kramer in the 5,000m, burst into tears when the result was confirmed, with Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands taking silver and the Italian Nicola Tumolero bronze.
Kramer, whose 5,000m triumph was his eighth Olympic medal in all, came home a disappointing sixth.
Prior to Bloemen's win, the dominant Dutch had gathered all five speed-skating titles in South Korea.
Bloemen finished in 12mins 39.77sec, bettering the 12:44.45 Olympic record set by Bergsma at Sochi 2014.
