Defending Australian open champion Rodger Federer has been drawn against Aljaz Bedine of Slovakia for the first round of the competition, whilst top seed Rafa Nadal will take on Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic.
Federer has been handed a favourable draw and potential quarter-final opponents could be David Goffin of Belgium, Richard Gasquet or Juan Martin Del Potro. Whilst Australian wildcard Alex De Minaur will take on 19th seed Tomas Berdych in what could be a baptism of fire for the youngster who is taking part in his first ever Australian open.
No 1 seed Rafa Nadal has been drawn against Victor Estrella Burgos and has been given a kind side to the draw, with John Isner of the USA and Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain being potential quarter-final opponents.
Novak Djokovic, who has yet to confirm that he is fully fit for the competition is the 14th seed this year and has been handed an opening round against Donald Young of the USA. A tough second round could also be in store for the six-time Australian Open winner, with a potential tie against Qatar ExxonMobil open winner Gael Monfils of France. Elsewhere, Dominic Thiem who is seeded fifth in the competition will take on world number 56 Guido Pella in his opening match.
Andre Rublev, who reached the final of the Qatar ExxonMobil open has been handed a tough draw against David Ferrer of Spain. Ferrer reached the semifinals of the Australian open in 2013, and the 35-year old could prove to be a stern test for the rising Russian star. Nick Kyrigios, who had been tipped to go far in the completion has been handed a first-round match against Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil. The fiery Australian will be hoping to make home advantage count, and better his second round exit in 2017.
