Safe passage for seeds at China Open
David Ferrer, Lucas Pouille and Roberto Bautista Agut were the seeds in action at the ATP China Open on Monday and all three won through.
There were few surprises on day one of the China Open as all seeds in action secured their places in the second round.
David Ferrer - runner-up at this ATP 500 event to Novak Djokovic six years ago - was one of the seeds in action, along with Lucas Pouille and Roberto Bautista Agut.
World number 13 Ferrer eased past Pablo Cuevas 6-4 7-6 (7-3) to set up a meeting with either Viktor Troicki or Fabio Fognini.
Pouille's victory was even more emphatic, the Frenchmen needing just 51 minutes to thrash Lu Yen-hsun 6-1 6-2.
Ferrer's compatriot Bautista Agut had more trouble in getting past John Millman, taken the distance by the Australian before prevailing 6-4 3-6 6-3.
He will now meet qualifier Kyle Edmund, who defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3 6-2 in Monday's other match.
