Kuznetsova 'not exhausted' despite Muguruza loss
Four matches in seven days have not exhausted Svetlana Kuznetsova, who will push herself against Dominika Cibulkova in the WTA Finals.
Svetlana Kuznetsova insists she is not struggling with fatigue ahead of her meeting with Dominika Cibulkova in the last four of the WTA Finals.
Two-time major winner Kuznetsova was the final player to book a spot at Singapore, edging out Johanna Konta by winning the Kremlin Cup last weekend.
The Russian has since played a trio of three-set matches in the Finals, winning the first two before suffering a 3-6 6-0 6-1 defeat to Garbine Muguruza, who was already eliminated, on Friday.
Kuznetsova's place in the semi-finals was already secure and she stressed a lack of motivation rather than fatigue affected her performance.
"It's not the best thing to know [that you are already through], and I mean I've done the most important job in the past matches," she said.
"You definitely don't want to lose the match so you try to fight, but sometimes the lack of energy just won't let you do that. I want to give credit to Garbine because I think she played way better in the second and third set.
"I don't feel exhausted but to push yourself to the limit you've got to really go hard – I just want to do it tomorrow and do my best."
Muguruza branded their dead rubber "a weird situation" but was delighted to have ended the season with a win.
She said: "It was tough because you come from two matches where you felt you had your chance, and obviously you lose and you have no options to qualify, so it's a weird situation.
"But at the end I'm playing to secure my ranking spot, to win against these opponents also, so it was just tough to change the page and have a clear mind in this situation.
"I'm very happy with the way I played today, and for sure a victory will keep me a bit happier because it was a tough tournament."
