Johanna Konta revelled in claiming a notable scalp in the week before Wimbledon, after thrashing Petra Kvitova in the deciding set of their third-round match at the Aegon International.

Konta, the first British woman to earn a seeding at SW19 since 1984, lost the first set 7-5 to two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova on Wednesday, but hit back to claim the second 6-4.

The home favourite, who lives in Eastbourne, then charged to victory by inflicting a surprising bagel on the world number 11.

"I'm not sure there are words that are big enough to describe that win," a delighted Konta said on court after reaching the last eight.

"It's definitely one of my biggest wins, even though I don't think she [Kvitova] is in the top 10 this week. She has been a top-10 player or top-five player for years and years and years now.

"She's a two-time Wimbledon champion, so I think her results speak for themselves. I am very happy with the level I was able to produce."

Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska, a Wimbledon finalist four years ago, was impressive in a 6-3 6-3 win over Eugenie Bouchard and will next face Dominika Cibulkova, who beat Kateryna Bondarenko.

The in-form Monica Puig ousted Caroline Wozniacki in three sets, while there were also wins for Kristina Mladenovic and Elena Vesnina. 

Karolina Pliskova led Misaki Doi by a set and a break when their match was suspended due to rain. Andrea Petkovic and Ekaterina Makarova managed to complete just one game - a love hold for the German - prior to the interruption.
