Federer and Serena opt out of ITPL
The financial climate in India has prevented Roger Federer and Serena Williams from playing in the ITPL this month.
Roger Federer's comeback has been delayed after he decided to miss the International Premier Tennis League (ITPL), while Serena Williams also opted to skip the exhibition tournament.
Federer was due to be back in action for the first time since Wimbledon, but will wait until 2017 to return to the court after recovering from a knee injury.
The Swiss great will not play in the team event in India due to the financial uncertainty in the Asian nation, with Williams another notable absentee.
ITPL founder Mahesh Bhupathi said: "We have had challenges this year, and we were hoping to get past them. With the current economic climate in India and the uncertainty of spending money, I reached out to both Roger and Serena to explain the situation.
"They have both been very supportive of the IPTL the first two seasons and we look forward to bringing them in future years."
