Bautista-Agut downs Medvedev in Chennai
A straight-sets victory over Daniil Medvedev at the Chennai Open gave Roberto Bautista-Agut the fifth ATP title of his career on Sunday.
Roberto Bautista-Agut made light work of Daniil Medvedev to claim the Chennai Open title and maintain his impressive form from 2016 into the new year.
The world number 14 won two of his four finals last year and is one from one in 2017 after cruising to a 6-3 6-4 victory in Sunday's showdown with his 20-year-old opponent.
Second seed Bautista-Agut has dropped only one set on his way to glory this week, becoming the first Spaniard to lift the Chennai trophy since Carlos Moya in 2005.
It was a comfortable outing for the 28-year-old as Medvedev - playing in his first ATP final - struggled to make any impact on his rival's serve.
Bautista-Agut conceded just four points on serve in each set as solitary breaks in either proved sufficient to wrap up the title.
The decisive moment in the second set arrived in the ninth game as Bautista-Agut converted his only break point of the set to move ahead and he duly served out to love for the match.
