Olympics: Phelps wins Lochte duel to reach medley final
Michael Phelps put down the hammer to beat Ryan Lochte and qualify quickest for the men's 200m individual medley final at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday.
Phelps, who was irresistible in regaining the 200m butterfly title on Tuesday and has three golds so far in Rio, timed 1min 55.78, half-a-second ahead of his US rival.
The American great led the timings into Friday's final where he will now be favourite to claim a record-extending 22nd Olympic gold medal.
