Korda ends LPGA drought in Malaysia
Nearly 17 months after her last LPGA Tour win, Jessica Korda finally experienced victory again at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
Jessica Korda claimed her first LPGA Tour win since May of last year by cruising to a four-shot victory at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
Korda has struggled to make cuts for much of the year, but took a two-shot lead into the final round and posted a second straight six-under-par 65 on Sunday to end her title drought.
The American's 18-under finishing score was the second lowest in tournament history, with Lydia Ko - who won the final major of the year at the Evian Championship last month - left to settle for tied second with Shanshan Feng and Stacy Lewis.
That trio all produced strong performances in the final round, Ko and Feng carding 66 and Lewis shooting 67 to finish 14 under.
But it was Korda, who was visibly emotional before the final putt dropped, who took the acclaim for an excellent performance.
"I think it was just a long time coming," Korda said. "I knew that I was getting really close and just needed to stay patient.
"That's all my caddie was telling me. He was on me all week about staying patient, the putts will fall. So it's just an incredible feeling."
