LeBron doesn't view Warriors as Cavs rival
LeBron James is excited for Monday's clash against the Golden State Warriors, but he does not think the NBA has rivalries.
Do not ask LeBron James if he is ready for a rivalry clash against the Golden State Warriors. He does not believe they exist in the NBA.
Even though the two teams have faced off and split the last two championships, James feels like the Cavs and Warriors are just two great teams co-existing.
Speaking ahead of Monday's showdown, James told reporters on Sunday: "I don't think we have a rival in our game today.
"We've had two great Finals appearances the last two years, but I had the same with the San Antonio [Spurs] when I was in Miami. We weren't rivals. And I think I played those guys more, so I wouldn't look at it as rivals."
James has heaped praise on the Warriors in recent seasons as the two squads battled for supremacy.
The three-time NBA champion and three-time Finals MVP paid Golden State the ultimate compliment to sum up his feelings.
"They're a great team, a hell of a team, probably one of the best teams ever assembled, and they're going to continue to get better and better as the season goes along," James said.
Newly acquired shooting guard Kyle Korver disagreed with James. He already feels like the Warriors game means a little bit extra.
"It's a rivalry, it feels like," Korver said. "I don't know how many of them there are in the NBA right now, but this feels like it's at the top. Those are fun to be a part of. They're heated, they're competitive, there are great players on both sides, and these guys have played against each other so much the last couple of years.
"This is my first time walking into it, so I'm just going to try to add to what they've been doing."
